Ordination through the Christian Chaplain Fellowship (CCF) recognizes a call to Christian ministry expressed through compassionate service, spiritual care, and pastoral presence. This process is designed to affirm a chaplain’s calling, verify their preparation, and provide ongoing support in ministry.
Ordination is both a sacred trust and a professional credential, acknowledging one’s readiness to serve as a representative of Christ and this fellowship in various ministry settings.
Applicants begin by submitting a formal Application for Ordination and a Personal Statement of Call, describing their faith journey, sense of calling to chaplaincy, and ministry goals.
Include current résumé or ministry portfolio
Submit two references (one pastoral, one professional)
To ensure theological depth and pastoral competence, CCF requires:
A Master of Divinity (M.Div.) or an equivalent degree from an accredited or recognized theological institution
Demonstrated study in Biblical studies, theology, pastoral care, and ethics
For applicants without a traditional M.Div., alternative paths may be considered (e.g., a combination of graduate theological education and ministry experience)
Applicants must complete at least four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) accredited by ACPE or an equivalent body.
This ensures practical experience in spiritual care, self-awareness, and interfaith competency, essential for effective chaplaincy.
All applicants undergo a criminal background check and a review of moral and ethical standing, affirming the applicant’s commitment to integrity, confidentiality, and professional ethics.
Applicants must agree to uphold the Code of Ethics for Chaplains adopted by the Christian Chaplain Fellowship.
Qualified candidates meet with the CCF Ordination Committee for a spiritual and professional interview.
This discernment process includes:
Discussion of the applicant’s faith, theology, and ministry philosophy
Review of clinical experiences and pastoral readiness
Assessment of spiritual maturity and vocational fit
Ordination is conferred through a formal service of prayer, blessing, and commissioning, recognizing God’s call and the chaplain’s commitment to ministry.
Candidates receive an official Certificate of Ordination, signed by the President and Board of Directors of CCF.
Ordained chaplains are encouraged to remain active within the Christian Chaplain Fellowship, participating in ongoing:
Fellowship gatherings and prayer networks
Continuing education and spiritual formation
Mentorship and peer support
CCF believes ordination is not an end, but a lifelong commitment to grow in faith and service to others.
